Piece By Piece, Monks Scramble To Preserve Iraq’s Christian History January 27, 2015 By Collegeville Institute Leave a Comment NPR ran a story over the weekend about the work of former resident scholar Father Najeeb Michaeel (Spring 2013). Fr. Najeeb, along with Father Columba Stewart of the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library, is working to preserve and digitize thousands of ancient manuscripts in Iraq. Through monumental effort, he was able to transport this library from the Christian village of Qaraqosh (this past summer his village was overtaken by the Islamic State, or ISIS), to his current location in the northern city of Erbil.
