Application Process

Interested applicants must be:

  • Engaged in research that fits within the broad category of “ecumenical and cultural research.”
    • This encompasses most subjects in theology and religious studies and also covers subjects associated more closely with other disciplines such as science and art.
  • Devoted to full-time research during stay.
  • Able to commit for a semester or full academic year.
    • Fall semester dates are early September through mid-December. Spring semester dates are early January through late April. Academic year dates are early September through the end of April. Specific starting and ending dates are noted on the application form.
  • Engaged in postdoctoral research.
    • On occasion the Admissions Committee considers applications from persons with qualifications other than a completed academic doctoral degree. Applicants without doctorates are encouraged to contact the Collegeville Institute before applying.
  • Interested applicants must submit:
    • a completed application form
    • a précis, 100 words or less
    • a C.V. or resume
    • three letters of reference which can be emailed from the recommender to staff@CollegevilleInstitute.org
  • Scholars from abroad are welcome; fluency in English is required. Read more on the Practical Information page.
  • Application Deadline:
    • The deadline for the 2026-27 Resident Scholars program is Sunday, November 2, 2025.
