Honoring Joyce McFarland May 20, 2022 By Collegeville Institute Leave a Comment Joyce McFarland On Friday April 13, 2022, our dear friend Joyce McFarland died at age 88 surrounded by family following complications from a stroke. Joyce was an honorary life member of the Collegeville Institute’s board of directors and served as chair from 1998-2002. She is also a member of The Kilian McDonnell Legacy Circle. “Joyce H. McFarland was one of God’s great ones,” reflected former Collegeville Institute Executive Director Patrick Henry. “To collaborate with Joyce was as good as it gets–the right mixture of challenge and appreciation.” In 2010, Henry composed a resolution for McFarland on the occasion of her retirement from the board after 27 years of service. In it, he wrote: “Your leadership of the [Collegeville] Institute in so many dimensions— through committees, attention to logistics details at conferences, financial generosity, and, most especially, as our chair as we moved from the second millennium into the third, has been exemplary.” He continued: “You have said that you value highly ‘the trust, love, and respect I experience at the [Collegeville] Institute—Board, programs, staff—the coming together of peers, with a special sense of acceptance and openness to one another—ordained, laity, academics, “ordinary” folks—all of them committed to making meaning of the messiness of our times and our culture.’ When you became chair you spoke of the [Collegeville] Institute as ‘an organization and an experience which has graced my life.’ Joyce, you have graced the [Collegeville] Institute in more ways than anyone can count.” Read Joyce McFarland’s obituary in the Star Tribune » Like this post?
