Treasure in Clay Jars Retreat

November 20, 2020 By Collegeville Institute Leave a Comment

Participants in the Collegeville Institute’s Community of Callings Initiative met for their fall retreat over zoom.

The Communities of Calling Initiative (CCI) core team members participated in a virtual retreat this fall. The “Treasure in Clay Jars” retreat played with the metaphor of pottery as it relates to personal and congregational callings. An important tool for discernment, metaphors can help move from a person’s story to reflection upon the vocational themes and dynamics that surface in their experience.

Richard Bresnahan, Artist-in-Residence at The Saint John’s Pottery, discusses his calling as a potter in a video for the “Treasures in Clay Jars” retreat. View all videos »

Each team received a box of good things from Collegeville ahead of the retreat, including cups from The Saint John’s Pottery Studio and packs of Johnnie Bread mix. If participants can’t come to us, then staff members Jane and Jessie decided to bring a little Collegeville to them!

We are excited about the opportunities to share the retreat more broadly with its virtual format. You can find the retreat booklet, video interviews, and more on the CCI website. We hope these materials will be useful for congregations beyond our cohort, to develop their own retreats or small group opportunities.
