Denise Lajimodiere appointed ND Poet Laureate May 16, 2023 By Collegeville Institute Leave a Comment Last month, Denise Lajimodiere, who was a spring semester short-term resident writer at the Collegeville Institute, was selected to be the Poet Laureate of North Dakota. She is a citizen of the Turtle Mountain Band in Belcourt, North Dakota, and is an accomplished poet, writer, and academic. Her book “Stringing Rosaries”, which was published in 2019, received wide attention for its description of the horrific experiences of Native boarding school survivors. From the North Dakota Council on the Arts website “North Dakota has named a Poet Laureate since 1957.
