A group of writers met last week at the Collegeville Institute for independent, unstructured work in community, as part of the writing workshop Apart, and yet a Part: A Week with Writing Coach Michael N. McGregor.

One participant reflected, “This time has reinforced to me the intimate connection I’ve long felt between Benedictine spirituality and my writing life: being able to integrate Benedictine prayer with my writing discipline, all within the context of this workshop and the greater community, and with the amazing hospitality provided here, has been nothing short of life-changing. What I will take with me is gratitude and a reinforced calling to both Benedictine spirituality and the writing life.”

Another participant shared this feedback about workshop facilitator Michael N. McGregor, “One of Michael’s greatest gifts this week has been his generosity and hospitality in not only giving feedback on work but in giving his attention and presence—and yes, mentorship—in contemplating what it means practically and otherwise, to live, pursue, and sustain the life of a writer.”
