Noted Ecumenist Dies August 15, 2013 By Collegeville Institute 1 Comment The ecumenical world, and the Collegeville Institute, lost one of this era’s leading ecumenists with the death of Brother Jeffrey Gros. A member of the De La Salle Christian Brothers monastic order for 58 years, Brother Gros served in leadership positions in the National Council of Churches, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Institute for Catholic Ecumenical Leadership. His work as a scholar and educator led him to join the faculties of Memphis Theological Seminary, Lewis University, and Catholic Theological Union. In the spring of 2008, Jeff spent a semester at the Collegeville Institute as a resident scholar. From 2008 until his recent death, he served on the board of the Collegeville Institute, enhancing the Institute’s work and benefiting those who served alongside him with his acute intellect and personal humility.
