Suffer me to return to you,
your throne a place for leniency.
I look to the sacred book for a
guide
against the troubles of heaven
and earth,
for they beset me.
This I plead on my knees.
I empty my heart in secret
before the cardinals, prelates,
but they are mere mortals
like I am.
If I would be guilty of every sin,
save me from the consequences
of prayerlessness.
For in it I die each day.
Mercy I pray, for my sins convict
me of unforgiveness.
A battle daily.
I may be the best of persons,
the most devout church attender,
but without your mercy
I’m always unworthy, and price-
less.
Help me to see what you want
from me
when you don’t lift the consequences
of my actions.
With your help, I can pay mercy toward
others.
Be that constant voice inside me,
my head, heart, and soul.
I pray to you Lord.
Amen
