A mother with a baby in her arms
paced the narthex and declared:
In this place the Spirit is strong.
Her certitude caught me off guard
and, speechless, I could only stare.
This mother, with a baby in her arms
might not have known that I preach the Word
and others come here expecting I’ll share
that in this place the Spirit’s strong.
But who’s so certain as to speak of God?
Who among us has held Great Mystery?
O Mother, with your baby in your arms,
look kindly upon me and pray for me.
Let it be according to Your grace that
in this place the Spirit is strong.
