Short-term Residency

The Short-Term Residency Program is designed to accommodate people who can't find time for a semester stay, but who can get away for a three-week or longer commitment. Welcoming people with differing interests, backgrounds, and disciplines, the program provides for a variety of purposes while still allowing individuals to take full advantage of the Institute experience.

Short-term residencies are available to a diverse mix of people—including scholars, writers, clergy, pastors, church leaders, potters, musicians, artists, print-makers, song-writers, thinkers, novelists, corporate leaders, and others—to gather to study, create, or renew their passions and projects. The program offers a variety of experiences and emphases depending upon the needs of the person.

The Institute's campus setting, designed by renowned architect Marcel Breuer, encourages vision and progress and often yields wonderful personal and professional results. A short-term commitment allows residents the opportunity to reflect on their work or vocational lives, and to act on the basis of those reflections. The organic beauty of the campus, coupled with its rich Benedictine history, has made it a spiritual destination for many. Each resident stays in one of the Institute's attractive, cozy, lakeside apartments. Nestled quietly among trees on a lovely lakeshore, the Institute is especially conducive to intellectual reflection, creativity, and prayer.

A short-term stay gives residents the time and space to begin thinking anew. It provides a perfect occasion to devote a concentrated period of effort and energy to a project. Dust-off the novel you started years ago. Complete the lyrics of your song. Finish that tough chapter. Redesign your corporate committees. Think. Create. Enjoy.

Collegeville Institute - Short Term ResidencyThe application process is easy. A completed application, including a brief project description or vision statement, one professional reference, and a phone interview are required. Applications are accepted on a rotating basis throughout the year. Space is limited, so early applications are encouraged. Though the time frame for a short-term residency varies from person to person, residents are encouraged to stay for at least three weeks.

Upon arrival, each short-term resident will be given an orientation to the Institute, as well as to the broader campus community.
