In her brilliantly written book City of Prayer: 40 Days with Desert Christians (Liturgical Press, 2008), Rachel Srubas (Summer 2007) welcomes the desert Christians into the swirl of twenty-first century life. Her creative retrieval of a vibrant moment in Christianity's past helps us grasp why wisdom from the past matters so much to the vitality of our own contemporary lives of faith.

In Rachel's own words:  "In the summer of 2007, I shared with you [Institute staff] the remarkable experience of participating in Writing and the Pastoral Life at the Collegeville Institute. I want to thank you for your being an important part of my work on a manuscript that has now been released by Liturgical Press as City of Prayer: Forty Days with Desert Christians.  As you can imagine, the publication of this book is a joy in my life, for which I give thanks to God."   http://www.litpress.org/Detail.aspx?ISBN=9780814630952
